Waxed amaryllis bulbs need bright but indirect light — a windowsill with diffused sun is perfect. Place them indoors at room temperatures (15-24 °C / 60-75 °F) to encourage timely growth; too much sun or heat can soften the wax coating.
The wax coating seals in essential moisture and nutrients—so never water the bulb or plant it in soil. Introducing moisture risks internal rot or mold.
Expect flower stalks to emerge within 4-6 weeks, though some bulbs may take 8-12 weeks depending on variety and environment. Each bulb typically produces 2-4 stems, each bearing several blooms that last around three weeks.
Annual growth trends toward sunlight, so rotate the bulb every few days to encourage straight, balanced stem development.
After blooming, the bulb remains a beautiful décor item. Inside the wax, it dries out slowly without rotting or producing odors — making it a tasteful, low-effort centerpiece.
While waxed bulbs are typically treated as single-use, gardeners can attempt to remove the wax carefully and plant the bulb in clean soil. With proper care through the growing cycle—including light, watering, and seasonal rest—re-blooming is possible.
